What to Expect & FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first colonic.

What Happens During a Colonic?

Your session takes place in a private, warm, comfortable room. You’ll relax on a cushioned table warmed by a BioMat and stay covered with a soft flannel covering throughout your session. Cozy socks are available too. 😊

Before we begin, I’ll explain everything step by step and answer any questions. You can insert the speculum yourself in private or, with your permission, I can assist while keeping you covered.

Purified water flows gently into the colon using the natural pull of gravity, there are no mechanical pumps pushing the water into your body.

I’ll be with you throughout the session, managing the water flow, fills, and releases while staying in communication with you about what you’re feeling and what you need.

As the water enters, you may feel some fullness or pressure followed by the urge to release. There may be temporary cramping or little waves of intensity, but as your body releases, that feeling of pressure passes too.

Water and waste flow through the release tube and directly into the plumbing, so you remain comfortably on the table throughout the process.

Before and After Your Session

A Few Days Before

Drink plenty of water and keep meals simple. Focus on organic whole foods when you can, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and other foods that are easy for your body to digest. Try to limit heavily processed foods, very rich meals, and overeating.

The Day OF

Keep things light. Do not eat for 2 hours before your appointment and do not drink for 1 hour before. Please avoid synthetic fragrances.

After Your Session

Drink plenty of water and ease back into eating with simple, nourishing foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and light meals can be a good choice. Pay attention to how your body feels and give yourself a little extra rest if you need it.

How You May Feel After Your Session

People often tell me they feel lighter, clearer, calmer, refreshed, or simply relieved after their colonic. Everyone responds differently, though, and occasionally someone may feel tired, lightheaded, dizzy, or a little nauseous.

Cleanliness & Care

Cleanliness is very important to me. Disposable speculums are used, and the treatment room, bathroom, surfaces, and frequently touched areas are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between every session.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a colonic?

A colonic, also called colon hydrotherapy, uses purified water to gently fill and rinse the large intestine. During the session, the water is introduced gradually and then released along with waste through a closed system.

At Tree of Life Colonics, I use a gentle water flow system without mechanical pumps pushing water into the colon. The flow is adjusted throughout your session based on your comfort and how your body is responding.

The Water Flow System uses the natural pull of gravity rather than a mechanical pump. Purified water flows gently through the system at a controlled rate. I stay with you throughout the session and adjust the flow as needed, allowing time for your body to receive and release at its own pace.

Colon hydrotherapy is generally well tolerated by many people, but it isn’t appropriate for everyone and there can be risks. That’s why it’s important to review the contraindications before booking.

Disposable speculums are used, and everything is carefully cleaned and sanitized between clients. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, have recently had abdominal or intestinal surgery, or aren’t sure whether a colonic is appropriate for you, please check with your healthcare professional first.

Keep things simple. Stay well hydrated before your appointment and try not to arrive immediately after a large or heavy meal. Wear comfortable clothing and give yourself enough time so you don’t feel rushed.

There’s no need to do anything drastic beforehand. If you have questions about medications, supplements, or a health condition, please ask your healthcare professional rather than changing anything on your own.

Most people don’t describe the experience as painful. You may feel some fullness or pressure as the water enters, followed by the urge to release. There can also be brief cramping or little waves of intensity during a release.

Every session feels different. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell me. We can slow the flow, release, pause, or stop at any time.

There isn’t one schedule that fits everyone. Some people choose a single session or come in occasionally, while others prefer a short series because they want more time to become familiar with the process and see how their body responds.

We can talk about what you’re looking for and how you feel after your session, but there’s no pressure to commit to a particular number.

An enema typically uses a smaller amount of fluid introduced into the rectum or lower part of the colon. It’s held for a short time and then released into the toilet.

A colonic uses specialized equipment to introduce and release purified water repeatedly during a longer session. With the system I use, you remain comfortably on the treatment table while the water and waste leave through a closed release tube.

Yes. Colon hydrotherapy isn’t appropriate for everyone. Certain medical conditions, pregnancy, recent surgery, active intestinal inflammation or bleeding, and some heart or kidney conditions may make a colonic inappropriate.
